The Anjouan license

The Anjouan license is a gambling permit issued by Anjouan Gaming, the regulator of an autonomous island in the Union of the Comoros, and since around 2023 it has become the fastest-growing license among crypto casinos. If Curaçao is the sector's default paperwork, Anjouan is the budget option that undercut it, and several of the casinos we review hold one. This page covers what the license actually obliges an operator to do and how thin the oversight behind it runs.

What it is and why operators choose it

Anjouan (Ndzuwani) is one of the three main islands of the Comoros, off the coast of East Africa, with the authority to issue its own offshore licenses. Licensing runs through the Anjouan Gaming Board, with the Anjouan Offshore Finance Authority handling financial supervision and AML enforcement. The commercial pitch to operators is straightforward: a regulator fee in the region of €17,000 to €18,000, a 0% tax on gross gaming revenue, no requirement for a locally staffed company, explicit acceptance of cryptocurrency, and a license typically issued within two to four weeks. Compare that with Curaçao's post-reform regime, with its local incorporation and heavier compliance load, and the migration of new crypto brands toward Anjouan explains itself.

Oversight reality vs Curaçao after the LOK

Curaçao is no longer a fair punchline. Since the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK) came into force in December 2024, the Curaçao Gaming Authority has issued licenses directly, runs a public register, imposes fit-and-proper checks and sets deadlines on complaint handling, as our Curaçao guidedetails. Anjouan has no comparable public machinery. Its enforcement history is short and sparsely documented, there is no published track record of suspensions or player-initiated rulings of any depth, and no certified dispute-resolution path exists for players. Even industry consultants who sell Anjouan licensing note that the license's recognition outside the island is disputed. The honest ranking today: both are light-touch, and Anjouan is the lighter of the two by a clear margin.

What it means for you as a player

For a player, the license establishes that the casino operates legally somewhere, that its games are supposed to be certified, and that the operator has AML and KYCobligations it can invoke at withdrawal time. It does not give you a referee. No Anjouan body will order an operator to pay you, no compensation scheme covers balances if the operator fails, and a dispute ends at the casino's own support desk. That is the same conclusion we reach for Curaçao, only with a shorter institutional history behind it, so the standard defensive habits apply with more force: test withdrawals early, keep balances small, and read bonus terms before opting in.

Which of our tracked casinos hold it

Among the sites in our reviews, BC.Game, Rainbet, Goated and Duel operate under Anjouan licenses. The pattern is visible in the founding dates: Rainbet launched in 2023, Goated in 2024 and Duel in 2025, which is exactly the era in which Anjouan became the default for new crypto brands. Epicbet's consumer product also runs under an Anjouan license alongside a separate Estonian-registered structure. None of this makes any of them unsafe by itself; it does mean their trust case rests on operator behavior and track record rather than on the license, and the younger the operator, the less track record there is to lean on.

How to verify an Anjouan license

Verification works the same way as for Curaçao. The casino's footer should carry a licensing seal that links out to a validator page on the regulator's site (anjouangaming.com) naming the operating company and showing the license as active. A seal that is a static image, links nowhere, or names a company different from the one in the casino's own terms is a red flag worth taking seriously. Since license status can lapse, it is worth re-checking before any large deposit rather than trusting a review you read months ago, ours included.

Before you deposit at an Anjouan-licensed casino

  • Confirm the license seal links to a live validator naming the operating company.
  • Weight operator age and withdrawal reputation heavily; the license adds little on its own.
  • Do a small deposit-and-withdrawal round trip before playing at real stakes.
  • Treat large balances as unsecured loans to the operator, because that is what they are.
